about
This is a song I wrote for my Lyric Writing class here at Berklee College of Music in my first year. We had to choose a poem and write a song about it, so I chose "Tea at the Palaz of Hoon" by Wallace Stevens because I was reading it in my English class at the time and it really stuck with me. It was also really funny to me because "Hoon" was my nickname in high school, and still is with my old friends, because when I sign my name my last name looks like Hoon! This was the only assignment for my lyric writing class that I got less than 100 on because of the lack of lyrics!
I hope you enjoy this song in a relaxing way and think of it more as a space for you to meditate in. I will not take offense if you fall asleep!
Tea at the Palaz of Hoon
by Wallace Stevens
Not less because in purple I descended
The western day through what you called
The loneliest air, not less was I myself.
What was the ointment sprinkled on my beard?
What were the hymns that buzzed beside my ears?
What was the sea whose tide swept through me there?
Out of my mind the golden ointment rained,
And my ears made the blowing hymns they heard.
I was myself the compass of that sea:
I was the world in which I walked, and what I saw
Or heard or felt came not but from myself;
And there I found myself more truly and more strange.
lyrics
(Ee ahs)
I can't erase the things that I've done
But don't you dare think that I'm the only one
I can create a marvelous space
Where my whole life can be replaced
(Ee ahs)
This is my name and this is how I sing
Please listen close when I tell you everything
This is my home and all the things I make
Where my whole life is carved from cake
(Ee ahs)
This world is mine
I have made every line
All the birds and bees
They are just fine by me
This world is mine
I have made every line
All the birds and bees
They are just fine with me
(Ee ahs)
This world is mine
I have made every line
All the birds and bees
They are just fine with me
(Ee ahs)
